With a forecast suggesting increasing winds throughout the morning Cloudbase once again took advantage of a small weather window and managed to get out flying with their tandem passenger Penny.

They had a great flight over the white horse and out forward to the road exploring the old crop circles from last year and then flying in the wispy bits of cloud. Penny who admitted before we flew that she was scared of heights, but said that flying tandem was in her words “completely awesome” and "one of the best things she had done in ages".

Penny has just emailed this

"Hi Lee,

Thanks you so much for the Paragliding on Sunday! It was a fantastic experience the sensation of flying was amazing and the views across the country side spectacular. You're right  - even though I suffer from vertigo I wasn't scared at all and in fact felt very relaxed up in the clouds - as soon as we landed wanted to go straight back up!

Thanks again".

This now makes 31 days training so far this year, fantastic.

This weekend 2-3rd April Chris Williams, Trainee Instructor with Cloudbase Paragliding is on his Instructor course with the BHPA and we wish him all the very best from all at Cloudbase Paragliding, Cloudbasers, students, friends and fellow pilots.  For those who know Chris you will know how dedicated he is and the efforts he puts into the sport and helping others.  We know he will do exceptionally well our his course and exam and will continue as Instructor shortly.

Lee/Nik.

I will keep this short as i've just got back from the airfield and about to head off to Mid Wales for my UK Mountain first Aid Course.

Well what a week I have never known so many flyable days, seven in total. We have been training all week with the winch at South Cerney. We would have been unable to train on the hill due to the winds being east all week, but we managed to train three students to EP, complete four taster days and managed 146 flights in total. I don't know about you Chris but I'm completely exhausted and looking forward to a weekend off. Did I say off I of course ment hard at work doing CPR stuff.

Let hope the weather continues for the weekend for those who are qualified.

Let it all start again on Monday!!!!

Lee

Well we had a fantastic day today at our tow field, congratulations to Ian Pepper and Tommy Abdy Colins for completeing their tow endorsements, and to John Wallace for completing his EP Tow and flying his first circuits today.

Also well done to the Four Army Parachute Instructors that joined in with the fun this afternoon, I think they will be back for more.

Looks like Saturday has some potential for some training so lets keep fingers and toes crossed.

With the forecast of strong NE winds in Wiltshire on Friday the 4th March it was decided that a posse of Cloudbase groupies would head for the Welsh hills and try and fly on the fantastic Pandy ridge. We also had some staff training to do with Chris Williams on the tandem so it was well worth the punt and give it a try.

We arrived on site for 10:30 to overcast skies and a howling gale so it was decided that a trip to the café in the Abergavenny bus station was in order. We stuffed our little faces with bacon butties and coffee and after an hour the weather had improved enough for us to wonder back to take off.

Well done to Ben Jennings for completing his first day of his hill conversion with us at Cloudbase. Even though Ben had very little ground handling experience from his previous School Surprised it didn’t take him long to pick it up and he was reverse launching and doing small hops from our private easterly training slope within a few hours.

Ben really enjoyed his day and will be back the next time its flyable to carry on with his hill conversion.

Well done again. Smile
